24 Heroes in 24 Hours – Mission Accomplished!

When we decided that we wanted to put on a charity event, we never could have thought that it would turn out as incredible as this weekend was. Taking on a 24-hour event was a drastic move as our first event, but go big or go home right?

We were nervous to say the least 2 weeks prior to the event, as ticket sales (donations) were much lower than anticipated. As of November 1st, we had only presold 16 tickets. We started to knock on every Crossfitters door we knew (or perhaps we just texted everyone we knew) and the community did not disappoint. By the day of the event, we were at over 100 tickets sold. We also had multiple walk-ins and people adding on WODS after participating in one.

The local news station WNEP and friend of our gym Ryan Leckey was able to bring so much attention to this great cause that we had community members stopping by to purchase raffle tickets, make donations and watch the athletes workout. One hero workout began every hour, on the hour from 3 pm Saturday to 3 pm Sunday. Meal Prep Grind provided us amazing food from start to finish and thanks to Hart Law donating his camper for the weekend the coaches were able to nap and take breaks as needed.

Below are some of the great photos by GoPro Hero Wods. See the rest here.

All and all the community was able to raise $4317 for Operation Enduring Warrior. Operation Enduring Warrior (OEW) is a veteran-founded non‐profit whose mission is to honor, empower, and motivate our nation’s wounded military and law enforcement veterans through physical, mental and emotional rehabilitation.

A personal note:

This event would have never been possible without the help of the coaching staff and our members who helped all weekend. Without the help of Panda, 50, Ray, Hydie, Barbie, Jason, Beth and BJ, we would have failed. Also, we are so thankful to all the people from surrounding gyms who not only helped promote the event but also who came and worked out.

The best moment of the entire weekend was when we were able to Facetime with our own member Mel who is currently deployed, on Veterans Day. It tied the entire event together, and seeing her smiling face in a STCF shirt made the event perfection.

Thank you all so much. And yes, we will be doing this again next year!
